Vaal AeroZone is the company facilitating investment and development of the Vaal Aerotropolis. This groundbreaking project will transform the Sedibeng District into a premier trade and logistics hub in Southern Africa.

Our mission is to facilitate global trade, foster regional development, and create sustainable value for investors, businesses, and the local community. Vaal AeroZone will develop, operate, and manage the Aerotropolis.

Vaal AeroZone’s shareholders and board consist of investment, trading and airport development experts with decades of experience in airport development, facilitating aviation project investment, airline route development, aviation research, airport planning,  and strategic management of airports.

Citibank SA, our major investment partner, has pledged R1.375 billion towards the first phase of development, underscoring the financial viability and potential of this landmark project. This significant investment, coupled with the support of our stakeholders, ensures that the Vaal Aerotropolis is well-positioned to drive regional development and global trade.

Meet Our Leadership

The Vaal AeroZone project is led by a seasoned team of professionals with extensive experience in airport operations, investment, and development. Each member of our board brings unique expertise and a shared commitment to making the Vaal Aerotropolis a beacon of progress in Africa.

With over 20 years of experience in airport operations and development, Petko Atanassov is the Chief Executive Officer and one of the founders of Vaal AeroZone and MTP Aviation Solutions.

His extensive experience includes senior management roles in airport and airline route development, airport operations, air cargo development & operations, emergency management systems for airports, airport security systems, valuable cargo security systems, aviation project management, and risk and compliance.

He was only the third person in the world to obtain the unique Airport Management qualification from the Airport Training and Development Institute in Montreal, Canada.

Zuko is the Chief Executive Officer and Principal at PAPE Fund Managers. His investment journey began more than 20 years ago when he worked for Brait Specialised Funds.

From 2006 to 2015, he co-established and built Pan-African Capital Holdings’ investment holdings vehicle and co-founded Africa’s first cleantech fund, Evolution One, securing US$94 million in funding.

Dr Kubukeli has served on several JSE-listed boards, including Siyathenga, HPF, and Poynting Antennas, and has chaired numerous investment committees such as CIVH, Revego, and PF3.

He holds a BSc in Biochemistry and Microbiology, a BSc (Hons) in Medicine, and a PhD in Human Physiology from the University of Cape Town.

Daniela McCormick is the Financial Director for Plumari Property Group, with over 17 years of experience in tax, group structures and planning, contracts, property management, and business management.

In her role at Plumari Property Group, she has focused on the strategic planning, streamlining and structure of the group.

She also serves as Director of the Plumari Private Reserve, African Hills, Vaal River City, and multiple property companies.

Daniela holds a BCom in Accounting and Honours in Accounting from the University of Johannesburg. She completed her articles at Deloitte (South Africa).

Nombuso Mtsweni is a seasoned professional in construction project management and developments, with over 15 years of experience in both the public and private sectors.

She has made significant contributions to major capital projects and impact investment initiatives while working with large organisations such as the City of Johannesburg and Group Five Construction.

Nombuso holds a BSc (Hons) in Construction Management from the University of the Witwatersrand, an NQF Level 6 equivalent Programme in Project Management (PPM) from the University of Pretoria and is a registered PrCPM with the SACPCMP.
